We launched our Support My School’s official website at the Nareshwor Udhyamsheel Vidhyalaya, Dullu, Karnali with a three-day event. The event focused on design thinking (facilitated by Sarila Ngakhusi and Samidha Rimal), the best use of the internet for students (facilitated by Samidha), internet safety (facilitated by Manisha), scholarships and financial advice sessions (facilitated by Himal), and hands-on interaction with our website (facilitated by Sarila).
We also did our need assessment survey with 35 students of 8, 9, and 10 classes of the school. The survey findings show that the major problem in public school infrastructures was safe and clean toilets, followed by the science lab, drinking water, teachers, sports, and free midday meals, which were the top five challenges encountered by respondents.
We also conducted a need assessment survey in Nepalgunj and Butwal public schools by partnering with Women Leaders in Technology’s Schools Activities program. Analyzing these data together, we found that rural respondents consistently prioritize basic infrastructure, such as water and toilets, while expressing concern about teacher availability. This shows rural schools’ fundamental challenges in creating an ideal setting for learning. However, urban respondents emphasize technological access, highlighting the significance of digital resources in urban education. Rural and urban also share some common problems, such as (toilets, free sanitary pads, and free midday meals).
This concludes that rural schools must invest in infrastructure and address teacher shortages. In contrast, urban schools must prioritize technological infrastructure and digital literacy programs.
